Reading with Confidence
At Ribbon Academy, we are committed to developing confident, fluent and enthusiastic readers. From Year 2 to Year 6, children use Reading Plus, an adaptive online reading programme that provides personalised instruction to accelerate reading progress and strengthen key literacy skills.
Reading Plus supports children to become successful readers by developing:
- Reading fluency – increasing reading speed, accuracy and stamina.
- Reading comprehension – helping children understand, interpret and evaluate texts.
- Vocabulary knowledge – broadening understanding of words and language.
- Reading confidence and motivation – encouraging positive reading habits and a love of reading.
The programme begins with an assessment that identifies each child’s current reading ability. Reading Plus then creates a personalised pathway, ensuring that every pupil accesses appropriately challenging texts and activities that support continued progress. Teachers can monitor engagement and achievement through detailed reports, allowing them to provide targeted support where needed.
Children have access to a wide range of engaging fiction and non-fiction texts, helping them to build knowledge across the curriculum while developing their independent reading skills. The programme adapts as pupils progress, ensuring that learning remains both supportive and challenging
